The Victoria Racing Club evolved from two earlier rival clubs, the Victoria Turf Club and Victoria Jockey Club, who disbanded to create the new club. The VRC is famous for running the prestigious Melbourne Cup and has run it at Flemington every spring without fail since 1864, as its feature race for the year.
